Myernick was named the Hermann Trophy winner for 1976. He earned All-American honors in both 1974 and 1976. In three years at Hartwick, he played on teams with a combined record of 37-8-5.

He then spent eight seasons in the North American Soccer League and one in Major Indoor Soccer League. Myernick also earned 10 caps with the U.S. national team. After retiring from playing professionally, Myernick spent over twenty years as a professional and national team coach.

On April 8, 2015, Myernick was elected to the US National Soccer Hall of Fame.
