Porfirio Armando Betancourt Cortez attended Indiana University where he was an All-American in 1979, 1980 and 1981. He capped off his career with Indiana University by winning the Hermann Trophy in 1981. Betancourt was the second Hoosier to win the award following Angelo DiBernardo in 1978.
He led the Hoosiers to an NCAA runner-up finish in 1980 and was a member of Honduran World Cup Team in 1982. Armando ranks third on IU career list in both goals scored and total points, he also set a season record with 63 points in 1981 and game record with four assists in 1979.
Armando was honored as Collegiate Player of the Decade for the '80s by Soccer America.
Armando would go on to play professionally for 12 years in Honduras and the MISL.
